Emirates has revealed a stunning new special livery featuring the flag of the United Arab Emirates stretched boldly across the fuselage of one of its iconic Airbus A380 aircraft.
The eye-catching design was unveiled on aircraft A6-EVG and represents a dramatic extension of Emirates’ already recognisable tailfin branding. The new artwork transforms the world’s largest passenger aircraft into a flying tribute to the UAE’s national identity, ambition, and unity.
The livery forms part of Emirates’ “This Flag Will Always Fly” campaign, which supports a nationwide initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The initiative encourages citizens and residents across the country to raise the UAE flag as a symbol of unity, resilience, and national pride.
Unlike traditional airline liveries that typically limit national colours to the tail section, Emirates has taken a far more ambitious approach. The UAE flag now sweeps across both sides of the massive double-decker aircraft in a striking three-dimensional design, creating one of the most visually distinctive special liveries currently flying anywhere in the world.
According to Emirates Chairman and Chief Executive Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the new design reflects the airline’s pride in representing the UAE on the global stage. Since its launch in 1985, Emirates aircraft have carried the UAE flag across continents, helping establish Dubai as one of the world’s leading aviation hubs.
The specially painted A380 has already operated flights to destinations including New York and Brisbane, with more routes expected to feature the aircraft in the near future. Emirates has also confirmed plans to apply the design to one of its Boeing 777 aircraft, extending the concept across another flagship type within its fleet.
Special liveries have become an important part of Emirates’ branding strategy over the years. The airline has previously introduced commemorative aircraft designs celebrating Expo 2020 Dubai and the “Year of Zayed,” honouring the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
For aviation enthusiasts, the new UAE flag aircraft is another example of how airlines are increasingly using liveries not only for branding, but also to tell stories, celebrate national identity, and create emotional connections with passengers around the world.
As competition among Gulf carriers continues to grow, visually distinctive branding remains a powerful tool. Emirates’ latest design reinforces the airline’s image as both a global aviation leader and a proud ambassador for the United Arab Emirates.
